Zoetrope Character Head Turnaround (and two examples of principles of animation)
Character Head Turnaround
28/01/24
The brief for this project was to produce a 12-frame zoetrope character turnaround, with optional secondary animation. I spent the majority of the week experimenting with character design - producing practice turnarounds to visualise what the final product could look like. I experimented with a mouth opening for the final three frames, to add some dynamic motion (and secondary animation) to the turnaround.
I decided on a simplistic, shapely form that would allow folds of fat and skin to be shown as the character completes the turn. I also decided to make the character balding, as then I could make the turnaround more interestng through the depiction of different angles of their har. This proved a particularly useful decision when drawing the keyframe of the back of the character's head. The hair also served as a guide when drawing the 3/4th tweens.

TWO EXAMPLES OF PRINCIPLES OF ANIMATION:
Staging - Opening scene from 'Flee' (2021)
Exaggeration - Scene from 'Pear Cider and Cigarettes' (2017)
